HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of setting out goals and milestones to reach throughout my life. I do it daily and weekly, but my favourite kind of goals are the yearly ones. I guess because they offer more in terms of flexibility due to the longer time frame, and I definitely work better when I don’t feel too rushed.
You can see last years goals here – I’m pretty happy with the number of them I managed to achieve. Some of them, like eating better, will always be a work in progress as there is always room for improvement. But my travel goals and intent to join the gym, amongst many others were completely crossed off. I visited five brand new places last year and not only joined the gym, but started seeing a personal trainer on a weekly basis to give me the extra push I needed (I’ll talk about that in detail another day if anyone’s interested?).
But enough with last year as it’s time to focus on the next 365 days. I want to complete the year being the best possible version of myself. I want to be kinder, to love more, help more and generally make this year a super positive one, despite what life may throw at me. Aside from that, I want to…
BE LESS ATTACHED TO MY PHONE
I swear I check it at least five or six times each hour – it’s unproductive and I’m not sure it’s overly healthy either. I want to reduce the time I spend on social media – communicating with friends I’m allowing because that’s something I want to do more of, but the general browsing has got to go.
BE MORE FOCUSED
Be organised, work smarter. I want to spend less time working but still managing to do more. These might be completely unrealistic expectations, but when it comes to crunch time I can often do more work in one day than in four – I’m hoping for more of this practice in 2016!
I’ve made great steps towards being physically healthy this year and want to step up my gym visits by a day or two a week. But at the same time I’m also aware that I need to make time for my emotional and mental health too. I find more gym sessions actually help this, as it’s very much “me” time, but I also want to take the time to have weekends away with my loved ones to refresh, relax and spend quality time together.
I want to show my appreciation to those around me. I want to keep in touch with friends more than I have been and generally just spend more time with the people that mean the most to me.
WORRY LESS AND BE HAPPIER
I spend a lot of time worrying, I also consume a lot of artificial sugar, and unfortunately this combination can actually lead to the occasional attack of anxiety with me. It’s really not my idea of a good time so this year I’ll be taking the necessary steps (basically everything you’ve read previously) to combat this. I’m also going to be leaving anything that doesn’t make me feel emotionally rich or bring me joy in 2015, it’s so important to surround yourself with only the things and people that make you feel truly blessed. As part of phase one I’ll be having a big clear out over the next week to give my living and working space a little cleanse – if only I could leave our hideous living room carpet in 2015 too!
I’ve already touched on taking more regular breaks, but I also want to travel more during these breaks. Before this year I really hadn’t travelled that much as I’m not very confident in unfamiliar places – I’m still not – but it’s something I’ve been actively trying to kick. My first job abroad this year was with Clarins in Barcelona and travelling there alone was genuinely one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever done. But I made it, there were tears on the plane, but I made it and I was so proud of myself for conquering that fear. I still get nervous before I travel, but honestly flying solo is now one of the more chilled experiences for me. As a result it’s given me a bit of the travel bug and I just want to do and see more this year!
OKAY 2016, LET’S SEE WHAT YOU GOT!
