I’ve never really been one for having “that fragrance”. The one that everyone knows you for? I have perfumes I love, but none that really suit me. And then I found out I was barking up the wrong tree – surprise, surprise.
A few weeks back I spent the morning with a world renowned perfumer (yup, same afternoon where I learnt what Johnny Depp smells like – it was a great day) who directed me away from the sweet vanilla scents of Jo Malone/Victor & Rolf/Korres Ect (although I do still love Korres fragrances A LOT) and more towards the fresh, musky and more naturally sweet, rather than floral sweet.
I came away with a few perfume samples to work my way through (though they’re not out until July, so my lips are sealed on that one) but on a trip to my local Space NK, I asked the sales assistant for something clean, fresh and a little musky. She pulled out a couple and Diptyque Vetyverio was the one I loved the most – despite the fact that all of them smelt amazing. It’s described as a unisex fragrance, although the rose brings a sweetness to it that I personally don’t think would work on the other half – however with a base of Vetiver and musk and a heart full of spices, it does have a warmth to it that makes it less girly than your usual. I also like the musky base because, although the word musky makes me think of the word “musty” – eww, it gives a very skin-like smell that blends easily with your natural scent.
In the past I’ve been put off buying Diptyque fragrances because I didn’t really love the way they smelt on the testers – but actually if you give one the chance to sit on the skin for a while I think you’ll be surprised. Have I found the one? Yes, for now. We’ll re-group again in July when my other favourite is finally released…
P.S Props to my mum for being with me when I purchased this and not even batting an eyelid at the price!
Nice one !

Nice product !
Ahhhh that's impressive, my mum would pass out!! I have to tell her about things in stages like '…it was a bit more than £30…no, a bit more…keep going…no actually less than £100! As if I'd spend £100 on a perfume. Ha!' and then I just about get away with it… xxx

I'm the same that musky always makes me think of musty haha though I know they're not the same! I would love to meet with a perfumer because I'm still on the search for my favorite perfume; I'd also love to give a Diptyque one a whirl! I have to admit, I normally am one to go more towards sweet smelling scents.

Lovely Notions
First off, this picture is absolutely stunning. Second, I really want to try this perfume (obviously), but think I might smell Philosykos first; now that's a competition I don't know if I'll be able to choose a winner.

This sounds like a lovely product. I know exactly what you mean, sometimes perfumes can smell so different on the skin, in comparison to the paper.

Ahhh I'm so glad that someone else actually likes the Diptyque beauty products (as opposed to just the candles!) Glad that you've found a fragrance to suit you too – I agree that all too often we're directed towards the 'girlier' floral or sugary scents. I used to wear Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb for ages which was far too sweet for me, and now wear a crisper, more cucumber-y smell from Frederic Malle that suits me much better! 🙂

Vetyverio is one of my favourites, such an easy shade to wear! Watch out for the next Space NK sale because they always have Diptyque perfumes for 50% off 🙂
