Just Landed: Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet

A few weeks back I saw there was a new Chanel release incoming and made a swift dash to my diary, making sure I didn’t forget to pick up a bottle the day it came out. Turns out having a diary really does work for me because come Friday 11th April I was headed to my local Boots on a mission. The Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet must be mine.

Luckily the search for this one was far more straight forward than past new releases from Chanel. They were stocked in abundance and the shades were pretty much a 100% match for the Vitalumiere Aqua shades (if you haven’t seen that review you can find it here), making the awkward matching process pleasantly easy. I’m 10 Beige which gives this foundation the same shade issue as the V.A – it just doesn’t cater for the super pale skins. However, where as the V.A is more on the dewy side, the Chanel P.L.V (doing some serious abbreviation here for fear of RSI) is more on the semi matte side – it holds the same luminosity as V.A, but a more matte finish. Definitely one for the more normal to oily skins here as it didn’t settle at all well over my dry patches and actually irritated my eczema a little.

It’s also rather heavily fragranced, something I don’t mind as I always find a good primer or BB cream underneath my makeup will save my skin from blemishes, but if that’s not a step you’re overly fond of it could be an issue. It’s £33, a pricey purchase, but no more expensive than my Laura Mercier or Giorgio Amani options, but if you’re a true beauty nut it might be worth holding fire for a second and re-assessing what you already have in your makeup arsenal. Dupes include the Vitalumiere Aqua (obviously) but also the Benefit Big Easy (similar finish and lighter coverage).

The usual TLDR? Is the packaging pretty? Yes *drools*. Is it good for dry skins? No. BUT if you have oily skin it might be a better summer option over Vitalumiere Aqua. Fingers crossed for an oily skinned summer on my part!

Ah that little black bottle is totally drool-worthy. It was great to read your thoughts on this! I picked this up this weekend and am reallllly loving it – it literally feels like nothing on the skin.

I was really curious about this one but I'm afraid my skin would react badly if it's so highly fragranced, plus even if my skin is on the oilier side I still suffer of eczema and trying to fight it since forever and I don't really want something to irritate it right now : may need to ask a sample and try it!

i've been getting the feeling from the reviews i've read of this foundation so far that it would suit me better than the vitalumiere aqua because my skin gets reasonably oily through my t-zone during the day and something that gives more of a matte finish would last longer for me. it's a shame about the shade range though because i'm super pale! i've swatched the lightest shade of the VLA before and it's definitely too dark for me. 🙁 it's such a shame but i guess it saves me a bit of money!

I think I might just have to pop to my local this weekend for a sample.
The finish sounds like exactly what I'm after, but I'm a little worried about the strong fragrance.

This looks amazing on you! Did you use a primer underneath? If so, if it's the Dior Glow Maximizer, I must get my hands on it.

This looks absolutely gorgeous, and I love the packaging. Sounds like such a nice finish, shame it's not so moisturising but i'spose you can't expect everything from every item hmm. Deffo need to have a look at this, thanks for the review.

Love the packaging! This actually sounds like it would work great for me! I have a pretty normal skin that isn't particularly dry or oily, but Vitalumiere Aqua can definitely get a bit too dewy for me during the warmer months. Dying to try this!
