Last Friday I did something spendy. On a trip to Boots which should have solely involved buying a mothers day present (not leaving it until last minute this year *applauds self* – sorry mum!), I may have wandered past the Chanel counter and given in to the little shopping devil on my shoulder. I came away with a certain foundation which has been doing the rounds on the interwebs again recently – no surprises there, I’m a sucker for a good review. But picking up my first ever Chanel lipstick purchase was a surprise for me.
Lot’s of you were surprised to hear I’d never purchased a Chanel lipstick before – this is for the following reasons:
1) They’re pricey
2) They’re pricey
3) They’re pricey
Okay, so those are all the same reason but £24 feeds me (being wheat free is expensive in Brighton) for a week or so and buys me a copy of Elle. But something came over me and I fell in love with the sheer pinky goodness of The Rouge Coco Shine in the shade Minute (90).
Despite my hesitation and concern for my bank balance, there are a lot of things I love about. First up, it’s everything I wish MAC’s Patisserie had been for me. This is that “my lips but better shade” where as patisserie lacked a little something that I can’t quite put my finger on. However both MAC’s Patisserie and Demure in the Revlon Colourbust Laquer Balm are both close dupes for this one.
It’s also one of those lipsticks that seem to hug your lips, never settling in the dry parts. You can even see how it coats and conceals a scab I have on my lip (so attractive, right?) and the sheer, glossy finish pulls everything together and makes any makeup look just look so… done? I loveee.
TLDR? How do I actually feel about this lipstick given the price? It’s ridiculous but… I’d do it all over again. There’s something about it that is just so perfect – obviously there are more affordable dupes for each shade – and I’m certainly not going to start doing a “gotta catch ’em all” kinda thing with them. But if you’re looking to treat yourself, the whole product is just perfect – colour, formula, finish, everything. The one thing I wish it had? Magnetic casing (like the Estee Lauder and Tom Ford lipsticks). Because there’s nothing more satisfying than “that click”.
