Valentines Beauty Essentials

I’ll let you in on a little secret – I haven’t worked on Valentines day for the past three years. Because I like to spend time with my O.H? Erm, not quite. Is it because I like to have an extra day of the weekend to sit in bed and watch the LFW goings on? Guilty. Regardless of my reasoning for said day off, it does give me a lot of extra time to get ready and play around with some valentines appropriate slap. Below is my run through of my favourites, whether you have a dinner date, a night in with the O.H, or your just a serious red lip lover…

BASE: When it comes to the combination of bases and boys, I like to take the French approach. Nothing too heavy with a healthy dose of glow. The Dior Glow Maximizer Light Boosting Primer is the best for adding some extra glow and looks amazing under the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser. The Origins Plantscription concealer is the best for a no makeup look as it gives medium coverage without ever looking cakey.

EYES: I like to keep things simple, a little smokey and long lasting, that way no amount of face touching (ewww, gross) can mess things up. The Estee Lauder Stay On Shadow Paint in Chained and Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade (dark brown) are long lasting formulas that will ensure both brows and eyeshadow don’t move a muscle. However if you like to keep things on the smudgey side then the Avon Glimmerstick liners are my favourite for lined eyes that get better the longer they’re on and the smudgier they get.

NAILS:  We could get all traditional with reds like Butter London’s Come To Bed Red or Clinique’s Party Red, or we could go dark and vampy with Clinique’s Black Honey – yes, it is my favourite, but there’s something that’s still a little valentines appropriate with this one. What ever you’re up to – nails are always a fun one to play up.

LIPS: Red lips are the usually the go-to, but when it comes to a night in with the boy, MAC’s Patisserie Lipstick is the one when it comes to a “you lips but better” colour that will wear away evenly. If you’re planning anything that doesn’t involve getting too up-close and personal with another human being then matte red lips like Nars Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Revlon Colour Bust Matte Crayon in Standout are long lasting and are both amazing red shades.

And then we have what feels like it has been a life-long dilemma – fragrance. Too sweet and sickly or too woody and I might blow my poor boyfriends head off. I’ve been loving Escentric 01 as it’s much more subtle than Molecule 01, and isn’t as instantly recognisable. Giving a wonderful, natural scent without being too over powering (because we can all smell someone wearing molecule 01 a mile off).

So what are my valentines plans? It involves a certain boy and I, a few good movies and a KFC family bucket. Classy.

I'm so interested to try the Molecule 01 scent, but i'm worried it will smell strange on me (especially if you're not supposed to be able to smell it yourself haha)! Your valentines plans sound perfect, the whole over the top malarky is silly 🙂 Lovely post as always,

Love the French approach to make up, all the girls over there look so flawless and effortless! Going to have to look at that MAC lipstick it looks gorgeous. My Valentine's Day is gonna be spent with the boy, Netflix and the M&S dine in meal. No big fuss for us I!

I'm actually going over to a friend's house with a few others and we're planning on baking haha. So I'll definitely be keeping my makeup more on the minimal side though it might be tempting to throw on a red lip just for the heck of it!

I really want to try the Dior primer, especially after reading your review on it! I love glowing skin and, like you, winter zaps my complexion of all brightness! I'm really trying not to spend money this month, but I can see this slipping into an online basket sometime soon! xx

Red lipstick is a must on this season full of love, and Mars is always an amazing option (my personal favorite is Russian Red). Can you believe I haven't tried any of Nars Lip Pencils yet? May I be forgiven!
