Red vs. Nude

Red vs nude lipsticks. If you’d asked me which I prefer this time last year my answer would have been nude. Always nude. However my recent Rimmel purchases have got me questioning the old ways and I’m pretty sure i’m on teetering on the edge of a red revolution.

I’d been trying to hunt Notting Hill Nude in the Rimmel Moisture Renew range down for longer than I care to admit. *Sigh* Brighton is just not one for beauty shopping. The newly reformulated lipsticks definitely sit better on the lips than they used to which is obviously a welcome change, but once I actually got my hands on Notting Hill Nude I was a little disappointed, it looks amazing on Lily – which is where I originally saw this one – but does nothing for me even after breaking out the bronzer. The Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfecter in 03 definitely makes it a little more wearable, but it’s got nothing on Hue or Shy Girl.

But my second purchase? In Love With Ginger. A super flattering orange toned red which just brightens up the face and is surprisingly wearable. I’ve been applying this on a work day and throwing on jeans, a slouchy shirt and hat and somehow manage to look somewhat put together? It’s definitely love, and I pay have purchased another red just yesterday. Oops.

So, red vs. nude?

Do you have MAC naked lunch on your eyes too? I'm in love with these two lipsticks!!

  2. 12 Nov 2013 / 9:44 am

The Notting Hill Nude would definitely wash me out. I'm much more of a bright lip kind of girl, In Love With Ginger really suits you though! x

Oh yes the red, it's stunning on you!

I always have a soft spot for a red lipstick!

  9. 12 Nov 2013 / 10:47 am

it's so hard to choose a favourite out of the two as they both create totally different looks! At the moment though I think I'd choose the red- it looks lovely and perfect for christmas!

  10. 12 Nov 2013 / 10:48 am

Ooh the red lippie is so pretty! I'm a huge fan of nudes too and never used to stray from them, but recently I've been finding myself going for bolder colours more often! xx

My lips are quite pigmented naturally, so nudes wash me out. I tend to stick with pinkish tones, and red lipstick seems so out of my comfort zone. But I have made myself a promise to wear a red lipstick sometime over the festive season.
Both shades look lovely on you.:)

  12. 12 Nov 2013 / 11:09 am

I can't wait until those hit the drug stores in the Netherlands! Anyway, I really must say: you do have the most beautiful lashes ever. I have major lash envy. Mine don't even look this good after I've curled them.
Oh and by the way: Red Lipstick all the way!

  13. 12 Nov 2013 / 11:20 am

There's just something about red that makes everyone look so chic and polished! xx

I read this on my phone and had to mark it as unread so I could come back and pop a comment on here. You have to try more reds as they really do suit you 🙂

I love both, depends on my mood (and the state of my skin haha)!

  17. 12 Nov 2013 / 11:58 am

I don't know why but I actually like that nude lipstick more on you 🙂

  19. 12 Nov 2013 / 12:24 pm

Definitely red, nudes look terrible on me, I give Casper the friendly ghost a run for his money!

  20. 12 Nov 2013 / 12:30 pm

I think both look amazing but I have to admit to being a genuine lover of nude lipsticks and I can't seem to jump on the red lip bandwagon

  21. 12 Nov 2013 / 12:38 pm

you are such a babe and I love you even more with red lips:)

  22. 12 Nov 2013 / 12:51 pm

Always red, I only wear nude when I have too much going on with the rest of my face. Red's make the face look so lively and amazing!

I love reds the best, but that's just my personal preference since I find it really hard with my skin tone to pull of nude colors well.
The red is definitely more of a show stopper and attention getter, but I kind of like that about lipsticks. Which is why I probably like the bold colours the best.:)

  31. 12 Nov 2013 / 4:31 pm

I love how reds make me feel! I have this gorgeous shade by Bourjois called Rouge Buzz which is my absolute favourite. I only don't wear reds that often because they are more high maintenance…it's definitely a look you have to "plan out".

Both look stunning on you! I love a colored lip because I usually don't do anything too crazy with my eyes so it helps to balance out my face a bit better 🙂

As it is A/W i would say red, i am loving it at the moment. It brings a bit of life to my face.

  35. 12 Nov 2013 / 6:25 pm

i wear nudes a lot, but that's just because they're so easy. i definitely prefer reds though if i know im going to be able to keep up with the touch ups throughout the day!

  36. 12 Nov 2013 / 6:35 pm

The red makes your lips look even more fuller 🙂 gorgeous gorgeous shades 🙂

I think they both look lovely on you. I love having red lips but can't always be bothered to maintain them during the day so that is when I turn to nude lipsticks.

just reviewed 'in love with ginger' i loves it 🙂 x

  40. 12 Nov 2013 / 9:10 pm

I think they both look very nice but if I was to pick one for myself, I'd go for nude. Not sure why but I sometimes feel out of my comfort zone wearing a bright lipstick.

Notting Hill Nude looks gorgeous on you. It's the perfect shade of nude for that look and your skin tone. I haven't tried Rimmel lipsticks yet but I'll definitely have to give them a go.

I've just blogged about my favourite pamper product… the face mask! More importantly, the ones that REALLY work. Check it out by clicking here.

Love the orange-red on you! Have you tried a blue-red? It's a bit pricier, but I use Rouge Dior in Zinnia Red 743 for evenings/work and it's amazing. Great on blondes and brunettes and lasts for ages.

Definitely going to give the Rimmel Notting Hill Nude a go!

  44. 14 Nov 2013 / 12:20 am

LOVE this orange/red lip stick. I've got a Kate Moss one very similar…might be tempted for this to be my next purchase!

  45. 15 Nov 2013 / 12:11 am

I say Red, always. It brightens up the face and pulls everything together! This one is stunning on ya!

  46. 16 Nov 2013 / 9:32 pm

Rimmel lipsticks made me question my love for nude shades too. That red is gorgeous.

  47. 17 Nov 2013 / 12:18 pm

    love the rimmel nude lipstick.
