I know what you’re thinking: “Makeup? When you’re on the beach?” But I’m not talking about all things tropical and sandy, I’m talking fully packed dusty stoned, sea breezy, flicking Kopparberg bottle caps around before you sit down kinda beach. Welcome to the H.O description of Brighton beach. I don’t love it as much as it’s slightly quieter companion in Hove – with the view bar and restaurant being my favourite lair for a scorcher of a summers day, but seeing as I’m central this week I thought i’d make the most of it.
The Base: For an afternoon at the beach there’s no doubt i’m applying SPF, my favourite of the bunch being a La Roche Posay Offering. Once i’ve done this I just want a small amount of coverage and anything with more SPF just feels excessive. So out came the This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle. Easy peasy, blended in with my hands, done. Next I pop on a smidge of the Origins Plantscription concealer and that is my base done. For my powder/bronzer combination I used a light dusting of the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Sun Power – looks scary but gives a perfect “I don’t need to sunbathe, I’m already tanned” look to my secretly pale face. No one needs to know it’s about three shades lighter than my body.
Cheeks: For cheeks I stuck with bright, light, cream formulations. The Aerin Blush in Freesia was lightly blended into my cheeks, with a dab or four of the Jouer Highlighter in Champagne – beautiful!
Eyes: I kept my eyes fairly simple, but seeing as we were going to dinner with family in the evening, I blended a little of my Clarins Khol Eyeliner along the top of the lash line, for a subtle definition, without being over the top or too harsh for day wear. I then wanted to keep my eyelashes looking fairly natural, so again, that Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mini i’ve got hanging around was whipped out for a fluttery, natural look. For brows, I lightly penciled the front and the arch in with the Topshop brow pen I can’t stop going on about, and brushed them through – just to let them know who’s boss.
Lips: For lips, I stepped ever so slightly out of my comfort zone and went for pink (PINK!! *gasps*), I dabbed it in very lightly so I don’t know what I’m making a fuss about, but I actually really like a pink lip with very minimal eye makeup. I think it’s the way to go. I used Brighton Rock by Topshop, but I’ve recently been trying out a couple of other pinks that I will have to fill you in on very soon…
