The Repurchase: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

The award for “most asked about product on instagram/blogs” this month has got to go to the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, and I completely understand why. There was a massive hype about it last year but with no set instructions on how it should be used: Is it a hydrating mist? A toner? Does it really do anything for your skin?  When I first bought this I hated it. I prepared for this outcome by buying the smaller size to avoid wasting a good £30. But despite my reservations, it’s a grower and when my little 30ml bottle bit the dust last week, I was straight out to Space NK for a new one – the big one this time. There are no strict guidelines on use, but this is how it works for me:

That “Morning Kick Up The Arse For Your Skin Toner”: Most descriptions will say that the BE smoothes features, tightens pores and gives a boost to your skin, making the perfect morning kick up the bum for your skin. When I first purchased this I was spritzing it on from the bottle. This was useless as the smaller bottle doesn’t create a mist, but more droplets, so only parts of the skin come into contact unless you drown your face in it. I recently starting spraying this onto a cotton pad and sweeping over my skin in the morning, post cleanse, for a lovely glow. This is where the love affair with the beauty Elixir began. I don’t use it every day but for mornings where my skin is lacking a little lustre, this is just perfect.

That “I’m On Public Transport & I’m Not Feeling Too Fantastic” Saviour: The one reason this wasn’t given away to a friend instantly. The smell of this is borderline over powering, but I personally like a good peppermint scent. However when you’re on a long haul flight or a very nauseating train journey, I spray this onto my face or a scarf and take a deep breath. This has saved me from being sick on a fair few flights over the past year and I wouldn’t travel abroad without a mini one in my possession.

And there you have my uses, I don’t use it as a hydrating toner as it contains alcohol and although it has glycerin it in to counteract that, my skin always just needs a little extra hydration. If you’re thinking about purchasing this I would go into a Boots/Space NK/pharmacy and firstly have a sniff to make sure you like the smell.

It’s also a good idea to asses whether your skin needs this – the majority of people who get on with this are early to mid twenties and up. Even I find that on a good skin day this will have much less effect and I put that down to the fact that younger skins generally have a healthy glow regardless of a heavy night or poor diet (mine used to anyway). So, as with most products, if your skin is already lovely you probably won’t need this. After a series of late nights this week i’m definitely not in the “lovely skin” club… pass me the beauty elixir and a cotton pad STAT!

I wanted to try the product, but had heard too many bad reviews. Yours definitely outweighs them !

I adore my beauty elixir, even though I haven't noticed too much difference to my skin. I'm definitely going to try spritzing it onto a cotton pad though I never thought of that 🙂

I was desperate to try this last year when everyone was talking about it, but now the hype has died down I've been umming and ahhing. I think I need to go and have another sniff (or two) to decide!

I have gone through a small and a large bottle of this but then I forgot about it. I might need to pick up another one!

I want to get the small bottle of this to toss in my bags to refresh throughout the day.
I've tested it in Sephora before though and I found the scent to be a bit strong but maybe I'll be able to get past that once I see how well it works for my skin.

This was such a useful post, I bought it when the hype was high and truly had no idea how to really use it. Like you, I find the smell can be really fresh and soothing and is great for long journeys or when you're feeling unwell. I live in a humid place so I also find this good when I'm on the beach or had a long walk and need a freshen up! xx

This is one of my favorite products! I have the smaller bottle, but it has lasted forever for me! I think the smell is absolutely amazing. 🙂

I keep going back and forth on whether to purchase this or not, on one hand I've heard so many good things about it but part of me wonders whether I would actually benefit from it, like I don't really understand what it can do that is so good! It seems like something I will have to try though to finally decide! x

This looks tempting to try! But I'm not sure if it would be any use for me as im only 18. Might go test it out anyway 🙂 x
