The Bitter Sweet Burn

It really is a bitter sweet moment when a Diptique candle fizzles out for the very last time – on one hand you now have a very swish little jar to keep things in. But on the other hand you’ve just burnt away a good £20 (or £40 if it’s a bigger candle) and will now need to replace it – I can already smell Space NK and my purse already feels lighter!

Alas, all good things must eventually end, I embraced this by getting a little too excited over what my empty jar would become. Narrowed down to one of three things: cotton bud holding, jewellery cup or a nail utensil tidy, I chose the first option, easy to keep tidy and damn handy to have at your finger tips for winged eyeliner mornings (I specify mornings as I’m incapable of doing anything well before 11am).

Before I added my cotton buds I took care of the last bit of wax by heating the jar up. This works amazingly well if you have excess candle left as opposed to freezing. I barely had anything left, so just ran hot water into the jar to heat everything up and then wiped clear with a disposable cloth. Simples. If I ever have excess candle I boil the kettle and then pour the water into a bowl and sit the jar in the water for a few minutes, it then allows the excess wax to be scooped out with a spoon. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

So now I’ve got a nice new cotton bud holder, everything’s all dandy right? Wrong. We’ve forgotten one tiny detail. What candle will replace this one!? If you have suggestions leave them below, I will be waiting, notepad and pen in hand…

I'm forever finding new fragranced candles to replace ones I've used up. Because I'm so frivolous with them, I rarely buy the expensive Diptyque candles – it's so heartbreaking when they're gone!

Try Yankee candles! They're incredibly good, last for ages, and the jars (and tumblers) look great! They've got so many fragrances too, and are just £19.99 for the very biggest size which lasts up to 150 hours. 🙂 my house is full of them!!

I'm coming to the end of my favourite cowshed candle at the moment. So sad it's finished but the glass will make a great brush holder.

i have had baies for years. well, whenever i had these extra $50 lying around. they don't sell dyptique in south africa which is probably a good thing as it may just cost half my rent. last time i had a friend coming to visit from new york i 'ordered' 2 baies and they got snatched in transit. some airline employee's home must have been smelling very nice.
so i say – save up and buy more baies in my honor 🙂
