The Review: Una Brennan Superfacialist Purifying Cleansing Wash

Una Brennan Superfacialist Purifying Cleanser

I’ve said during many a skincare related post that I very rarely stray from the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash, it’s paraben free but I’ve always been conscious that SLS is the second ingredient used. There’s a lot of discussion about whether this ingredient is harmful when used in skincare products, but I’ll save that for another day or I’ll be here all week. I’m not too worried about it but still wanted find a cleanser that works in the same way my simple wash does, but that didn’t contain SLS or break me out. For peace of mind – you know? After a good old search through the shelves of Boots, I came across the Una Brennan Superfacialist range, and picked up the Purifying Cleansing Wash for £7.99 – seriously reasonable if you ask me!

The cleanser itself is a clear gel, it has a herbal smell, but nothing off putting or unnatural, and melts wonderfully into the skin. According to the beauty bumf on the packaging, it contains Salicylic Acid to help detoxify and deep clean congested skin of daily impurities and excess oils without causing irritation. After the first few days of use I found a few little spots appear on my cheeks, but nothing that indicated a bad reaction and after a few days these cleared up – this could indicate a potential purging stage as a result of its detoxifying properties, or just be a result of too many cookies… My bad, i’ll eat healthily when testing out skincare products in future! This initial blip aside, my skin hasn’t been any different to how it was with my last cleanser, and although that doesn’t sound like a rave review but it is. My skin reacted really well to my previous cleanser, and now I’m getting the same results minus the use of SLS – I call that a winner!

If you have dry skin this might not be one for regular use, but for normal/oily combination skin this works really well at balancing out the excess oil in your skin. If you do have dryer skin there’s also a hydrating cleanser which I’ve seen a fair few good reviews on. Basically that genius Una Brennan knows what she’s doing and seems to have put together an effective and affordable range. Excuse me whilst I run out and buy everything…

Ooh, I wanted to try this out for a while and my skin is fairly oily so I think you've definitely convinced me! It's so hard to find cleansers for oily skin that don't strip it of essential moisture and don't contain SLS so this is definitely going on my to-buy list! xx
