I like to think I’m pretty open with you guys, and there’s not too much that you ever really need to ask, but every so often a few questions do pop and they’re more often than not the sames ones around similar topics. So I thought I’d make use of my gloomy saturday and crack on with answering them for you!
These questions will all be popped onto an FAQ page in the bar above at some point (but do remember I’m lazy so it won’t be super speedy) and I’ll add to them if new ones come up.
What camera do you use for photography and filming?
I use the same camera – a Fuji Film FinePix S4080 (above) – this might throw some of you as there is a major difference in the quality of photos to videos, but that’s a result of film being a complete after thought on this camera. If you’ve recently started out and decided you like blogging and want to upgrade from your phone or digital camera, these are actually really nice little cameras to go for as they do a range of different specs and prices. You can also pick up the more basic models second hand for under £100 if you shop around. I also use my iPhone on occasion if I don’t have too much time.
Do you use studio lighting or any other equipment?
I use a lot of equipment when it comes to filming videos, but less for just photos. I don’t know the cost of it all as it was a christmas present from the boy, but I know he didn’t spend any more than double digits on both my lights and tripod – what a savvy little shopper he is!
I have two studio lights, but you only really need a single one (shame they mostly come in pairs). I keep one set at Joshs and one set at mine so I can film whenever, and I just have my little tripod which stays where ever I do.
I don’t by any means think everyone needs this for filming, but I really liked making videos and am very rarely at home in the day time, so my constant moaning spurred Josh on to purchase these.
Do/will you blog full time/what is your job?
I actually work full time as an events co-ordinator and I love it. It would be a miracle if I made a living from Hello October seeing as I’ve had one paid add to date! I’ve also been asked if this will change in the future, but honestly I don’t know if I could ever be self employed – I’m too chicken to deal with the lack of stability!
How do you do your eyebrows?
I bloomin’ love this question, it’s asked by twitter followers and work colleagues alike! Click here for my eyebrow routine. I trim and shape them myself and have never had them threaded or waxed.
Did you go to uni/is it easy to get a job without going to uni?
I went through this in my career post but I didn’t get into uni. It’s not easy to get a job without going, I had some nasty experiences where I was openly judged on my age and lack of degree and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I was super lucky with the jobs I did get and I loved most of my jobs but honestly if you can go to uni then I wouldn’t advise anyone against that.
Will you help me with my blog/give me advice?
This is a weird one, as I don’t believe anyone but you should have an input over what your blog looks like. I will be doing a blogging tips and advice post soon, but it will be more general than personal.
As always if you have any other questions then just let me know!
so many people have a varied opinion on whether uni helps in your career, as i'm pretty sure now a days it doesn't matter what degree you got, just whether you have one or not. Sounds like you have a lovely job though and have kept striving despite the knock downs! ox
Jealous of your eyebrows considering you have never had them shaped by a pro!
Can't wait for your blogging tips post!

Thanks for sharing. Always nice to know the blogger behind the blog.
Wow. Coordinating events must be a fun and stressful job. But I'm sure you are good at it. I know what you mean about stability though – blogging is a nice way to earn side income, but a hard way to make it full-time.
