The Hair Post: New Year, New Haircare

You may have heard me mention that on new years eve, on a complete whim, I decided to have my hair re-ombred. I had it done about a year and a half before and it was at the point of almost being completely grown out and my hair just needed a bit of livening up. I asked for a subtle ombre/sunkissed effect to the ends of the hair, and the result was amazing – the transition from my natural colour to lighter ends is virtually unnoticable!

To achieve the desired result, we used a combination of bleach and non bleach dyes on different layers of highlights – not as harmful as a full set of bleach highlights, but still pretty tough on the locks. I own a fair few hair masks, but for this occasion I decided to introduce a new mask into the family – cue Dove Nourishing Oil Care mask. If you like the conditioner you’ll love this, the smell and consistency of the product is amazing, and I’ve barely noticed a difference to the texture and condition of my hair since I started using this. I use this once every 3 or 4 washes and apply it after washing and a quick towel dry, leave it on for around 30 minutes – not the required time but I like to sit and catch up on Eastenders whilst it’s on.

I’ve also been using the Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Blonde Shampoo* and Conditioner* – it smells amazing and is great for keeping the colour and reducing brassy tones that can develop. The conditioner is also really effective on the whole nourishing side of things, my blonde ends haven’t been knotting as much as they used to and my hair is nice and soft between washes!

I can see myself getting quite into the whole hair care malarkey this year – if you have any recommendations for treatments or oils then send them my way as I fancy trying a fair few new products. Oh, and yes – the shampoo was really fun to clean up off my dresser!

Boots have started sellng a few new brands in their professional hair care. Including Ojon and Bumble and Bumble! I haven't tried either myself but have read good reviews for both! Also good old moroccon oil is amazing for the hair, I use their finishing spray and it makes my hair look likes I just came out of the salon!

I love the Lush H'Suan Wen Hua hairmasks, it really hydrates your locks beautifully!
I'm thinking about also going for a subtle ombre, but I'm scared my hairs going to feel coarse.
Did the ombre do that for you or does your hair still feel nice and soft? ๐Ÿ™‚

I love your blog, Suzie! x

This post was really helpful for me as I feel like my blonde is lacking in moisture and getting tangled. I like to use the Vo5 moisture soak elixir in shower treatment before shampooing ๐Ÿ™‚

Ive never tried this Dove Mask – I think in the winter you really need to give your hair a little more TLC. It gets battered by the cold weather. I need to pick this mask up. I do enjoy alot of the Dove range.
Your hair is lovely btw :o)

I just went in to get my long locks "trimmed" and came out with significantly shorter hair. I can't wait to have long hair again and so I am doing my best to baby my hair and keep it moisturized. I will have to give this mask a try.

I've been really interested in the ombrรฉ look, but I've never dyed my hair before or bleached it or anything- which is strange because my sister is a hair dresser!

I'm also trying to be better about haircare this year! I've heard such good things about sulfate-free shampoos, so I'm going to be trying some of those for sure. Also… I just tried Bumble and bumble gentle shampoo, which is really nice and suitable for colored hair! Your hair looks beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚
