The Review: Urban Decay Naked Basics

The Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette landed on my lap on Christmas day and I couldn’t quite contain my excitement (you can tell by the photos that it’s already well used – trademark fingernail dent and all!). Gone are the days of no eyeshadow as recently I have been loving it. I don’t quite know what happened, but one day I woke up and wanted to wear it and voila – this went on the Christmas list.

If you’ve been with me since the start of Hello October you’ll know that the original palette was the first product I ever featured on the blog. So why did I bother getting this one you ask? The answer is plain and simples. No shimmer. The naked basics palette is six shadows worth of nude, matte, everyday wear. I realised earlier this month that that was something that was seriously lacking in my makeup collection, and needed to be rectified – stat!

Upon opening, I first noticed the packaging (as you do), no noisy tin, and no sued/velvet/dirt magnet material. This feels very similar to Nars packaging, yes, it does mean it is open to getting a little grubby, but its super easy to wipe off which is far more difficult with the original palette.

The pallet shades consist of a highlight, two lid colours and 3 crease colours. Perfect for a simple, one shade, easy look or for a serious smokey eye – the worlds your oyster. Well, as long as you want your oyster to be a nude, matte shade…

So, for £20 is it worth it? Personally, for me it’s far more affordable than Naked one and two (£36), being almost (but not quite) half the price. It also works out far better than paying £9 each for it’s Mac equivalents, the cost for these individually actually works out to £3.33. Travel-wise, it’s must easier owning the Naked basics as it fits into those nifty little pockets in your bag. Although there are two matte shades in the original Naked palette, they weren’t light enough to work with my skin the way the Naked Basics does, so if you want a matte shade (or two) to lighten and brighten – you will find this in the Naked Basics. The short answer? Yes. It’s love.

It looks so good! The thing is, I don't usually wear matte eyeshadows as I prefer shimmery ones, but I might start to

I'm really interested in getting this. Trouble is, I don't tend to use Naked or Buck from the original palette, so not too sure whether I'd get much use out of these. I think I'm a shimmery girl at heart, and prefer my matte nude shades to be darker. So not so nude after all I guess? x

Ahhh I'm so tempted to buy this. I've been really into mattes as well lately and I love the compact size- too cute! I wish that there was a bit more variation though. I think that Venus, Foxy, and WOS are a bit too similar! ):

I'm in town minds about purchasing this so I'm waiting until its released in stores to have a swatch, a few have said that the shades appear chalky and are too similar to other palettes but others love them! I want something smaller than the Naked palettes in full size to carry round in my travel bag, plus I need a few more matte shades. Decisions!

    I don't wear eyeshadow much, but I have a feeling I'd like this because of the matte-ness 🙂 x
