I feel like I can say this to my regular readers without the pitch forks making an appearance – I’m not the biggest fan of music… A strange confession, but I’m very fussy. A bad piece of music (any example from my mums iPod will do) just tends to make me feel angry. The closest I’ve really come to loving an album for more than a month is a CD my bestie and I made when we were 14, and our love for it extends to screaming “tuneeee!” in the car at certain songs. So when I find an artist I really like I tend to stick with them. For the past year, a current love of mine has been Jennifer Left.
Last week the band played at the Brighton Dome, as soon as I heard I was
dragging the boy into town to see her. Now I’m not here to write
eloquently about music, in all honesty I’d be terrible at it and I don’t
think I could ever do them justice. But its an amazing feeling to have
the hairs on your arms stand up, and to listen to something that means
something to you.
The band themselves are also amazingly cool, the guy with the huge beard on the right (who’s unfortunately almost hidden) and the lady on the left always make me smile – Why? Well who doesn’t love a beard and the girl on the left seems to know every instrument known to man, and often plays more than one at a time – so entertaining! Not only was it lovely to listen to Jens music, but the room was decorated with an assortment of lampshades hanging from the ceiling (I’m sure none of you will be surprised that I spent ages after trying to photograph them).
Now I’ll be honest and say that, with the lead being Brighton based, they hold a special place close to my heart. But we all know that I will never like anything for the sake of it, so we know this is love. I’m currently purchasing their Blag Dog EP as we speak (£2.49, so I can even afford it before I’m paid tomorrow!) and I can guarantee it will be on my iTunes 25 most played before the weekend is out!
If you’re interested, you can listen to their music (here), and if – like me- you really like it, you can give it a cheeky pre-pay day purchase (here). I’d love to know what you all think, so let me know what you think!
Disclaimer: Everyones taste in music is different, some people may love artists I talk about and some won’t. That’s okay. I’m not pushing anyone towards liking this, or purchasing this. I just think it’s nice to talk about support artists that you love every once in a while!
